Start off the day with coffee and a quick tour with beekeeper Julie White at the certified organic Long Point Honey Company, at Prince Edward Point (south-east corner of Prince Edward County).

Long Point Honey Company is a small scale apiary (25 hives) tucked into the Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area. It is the second apiary in Ontario to be certified organic and you will have the opportunity to hear about the ins and outs of organic beekeeping and see how Julie has set up her operation. Julie can also speak to the importance of her pollinator partnership with the County which limits side road mowing along the point to curves. While you are here, you may want to drive 5 km down to the Prince Edward Bird Observatory or to the end of the point to see the historic lighthouse gracing LPHC’s logo.

Then on to Milford for lunch and annual Queen Auction, with proceeds to OBA’s Tech-Transfer Program.

Honey Exchange: Want to try out some different honeys? Exchange up to three jars of honey with another beekeeper! Drop off up to three jars of honey, clearly labeled, at the Honey Exchange table before you sit down to lunch. After lunch come and pick up another beekeepers honey (choose the same number of jars as you brought). It’s as simple as that!

The afternoon will be spent with Gavin North and Bay Woodyard of Honey Pie Hives and Herbals, where we will enjoy mead and apitherapy workshops as well as a Mite Monitoring workshop presented by TTP specialists.
