National Farmers Union supports OBA call for ban

ONTARIO

September 20, 2013
To whom it may concern:

The National Farmers Union – Ontario is a direct-membership, non-partisan farm organization, which represents farmers in Ontario. The NFU-O works toward the development of economic and social policies that will maintain family farms as the primary food-producers in Ontario and across Canada.

The NFU-O is calling for a five-year moratorium on the use of neonicotinoids as seed treatments for field crops starting in spring 2014 and supports the Ontario Beekeepers Association’s call for restrictions on the use of neonicotinoid pesticides in Ontario.

As farmers, the NFU-O recognizes the need for pollinators in food production. In order to achieve our goals of food sovereignty and healthy, vibrant family farms and rural communities, all farmers must develop farming practices that promote pollinator health.

Sincerely,

John Sutherland NFU-O President
