2026 AGM Honey Competition
Ontario Beekeepers’ Association Honey Competition Rules – 2026
Hosted at the OBA Fall Annual Meeting & Conference
The Ontario Beekeepers’ Association invites Ontario beekeepers to participate in the 2026 OBA Black Bottle Competition.
The competition will take place during the 2026 OBA Annual Meeting & Conference:
November 26–28, 2026 - Horseshoe Valley Resort, Barrie, Ontario
This year’s competition will feature one class only: the Black Jar Competition.
Entrants will compete for two awards:
● Judges’ Choice, selected by a panel of judges.
● People’s Choice, selected by AGM attendees through a ballot system.
The competition is open to Ontario beekeepers. The honey must be produced in Ontario and submitted in accordance with the entry requirements below.
Entry Requirements
Each submission must include:
● Two matching 500 g plastic squeeze bottles.
● Containers that are opaque or completely covered so the honey cannot be seen.
● No labels, names, logos, or other identifying information on the bottles.
● Honey that is suitable for both judging and public tasting.
The two bottles submitted for each entry will be used as follows:
● One bottle will be available for the judges’ evaluation.
● One bottle will be displayed for the People’s Choice tasting and ballot.
Entrants may cover their own bottles before shipping or delivery. Alternatively, entrants may bring clear or transparent squeeze bottles to the conference, where OBA volunteers can cover them with opaque material at drop-off on the morning of the meeting.
Entries must be prepared so that the colour and appearance of the honey are not visible.
The Black Jar category is intended to focus on the sensory qualities of the honey, particularly taste and aroma, rather than colour or visual appearance.
Entry Fees
The entry fee is:
● First submission: $10.
● Each additional submission by the same entrant: $5.
