New antibiotic regulations came into effect on December 1, 2018. These regulations change how beekeepers access antibiotics used to prevent American foulbrood (AFB) in their colonies. The following resources have been developed to help beekeepers in Ontario navigate these regulatory changes.

Establishing a Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR): A Guide for Ontario Beekeepers

The Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) describes the professional working relationship between a veterinarian, a client, and the patient. This must be established before a veterinarian can extend professional services to a client. This Simple Guide is available to assist beekeepers in Ontario prepare for their initial disucssion with a veterinarian. 

Where do I find a Veternarian that will work with bees?

Beekeepers can find a veterinarian that lists bees as a patient species through a few avenues.

1 - Use the list below to find a veterinarian that has completed the Antimicrobial Management for Beekeeping Workshop, and is ready to help beekeepers.

2 - Use the list found on the Ontario College of Veterinarians website.  https://cvo.ca.thentiacloud.net/webs/cvo/register/#/ - IMPORTANT!!! Click on "show more options" and select "bees" for the patient species.

3 - Talk to your local veterinarian and discuss the options. Your veterinarian can always contact the OBA with questions or for guiadance about the current products available. Your veterinarian could take the online workshop to learn more as well.
